Welcome to Bernstein & Beyond, our second attempt at the long-awaited Bernstein concert that was previously thwarted in 2020. We are so grateful to sing this music together! As we prepare for our concert on March 29, 2025, we especially welcome any new singers to join us. Come check out a rehearsal or two, and find your musical outlet with Gold Coast Concert Chorus!

You know the iconic music of West Side Story, but have you ever sung the many dynamic masterpieces of its composer, Leonard Bernstein? Join us to sing some captivating choral pieces that showcase the energy, emotion, and innovation of Leonard Bernstein's music. This concert also features compositions from Gold Coast’s upcoming Ireland tour, so you can sing these beautiful Celtic pieces without ever leaving the country! Whether from Bernstein or beyond, this repertoire has left an indelible mark on the world of music. Together, we will create an unforgettable evening of musical excellence and artistic expression.

The Gold Coast Concert Chorus is a non-audition community chorus. Rehearsals are every Monday from 7:00pm to 9:15pm at the Church of the Foothills in Ventura, beginning January 6, 2025. The week of the concert, we will have two technical rehearsals on Monday and Wednesday prior to the performances.

Our health and safety protocols. Please keep in mind that these plans are based on the current situation; we will continue to review and monitor the situation and make changes as necessary.
1. Testing or masking is no longer required for weekly Monday rehearsals.
2. If you do not feel well, please stay home. If you are unsure if you are sick (i.e. allergies, etc.) please wear a mask.
3. If you have been exposed to COVID in the last week, you must have a negative test and a mask to attend rehearsal.
4. If you are recovering from COVID, you may return to rehearsal 10 days after your first positive test or when you test negative.
5. For Tech Week, testing will be required each day due to proximity on the risers.
Registration is open through January 20, 2025.

The cost of participation includes a singer fee of $75 and a music fee of $35 (unless you already have the Bernstein pieces). We will take payments in-person only (card, check, or cash) to make sure that you only pay for what you need. Because this concert is a combination of the never-performed Bernstein concert from 2020 and a few other pieces from the upcoming Ireland tour, please take a look at the chart to see your music fee.
We believe that everyone should have access to choral music! If you require a partial or full scholarship to participate, please let us know by filling out an application HERE.

Some words from our Director
Hello singers,
The big news this season is that we really are, at long last, going back to a three concert season. Our classical concert is back!
I love the classical concert. It stretches us as individuals and as a choir, and makes us all better musicians and collaborators. Our
three-concert format, which has served GCCC so well for 36 years, is part of what makes our identity. I am thrilled to have our classical concert back in the mix.
Our first concert will be a holiday celebration called Comfort & Joy, and there will be a lot of both. I have found gorgeous carol arrangements, fun Christmas songs, and pieces that are truly joyful to sing and to hear. It will be just what we need in December, and will be a lovely bunch of music to live with this fall.
We will go back to starting practice early in January so that we can perform our rousing Bernstein & Beyond concert in March. We will reprise a lot of Best of All Possible Bernstein which we did NOT get to perform in 2020, and we will repackage it as Bernstein & Beyond. West Side Story! Candide! Wonderful Town! Leonard Bernstein gifted us with so much wonderful music.
Our June pops concert is called Road Trip & Mix Tapes. This one should be a lot of fun, and will include lots of songs about…I think just about anything we like! I have found lots of cool songs about traveling, and about places in our country which would be fun to visit, but there can be much more. What would you like to hear on your mixtape? Drop me a line!
We, the musicians of Gold Coast, are our best advertisement. If you are a returning singer, bring a friend! The Open House/First Rehearsal will be a perfect way for your friend to try out our group. If you are new to our choir, please join us, meet some folks, and get a chance to see how you like it. Remember, there are no auditions for Gold Coast. We are a true community choir that does great singing, and has a lot of fun doing it! LIZ
